What Does
'Feminist' Mean to You?

Super
Bowl Sunday Syndrome: Several women's advocates maintain that
there is a direct correlation between watching the Super Bowl
and violence against women. These feminists rely on data that
they claim support the assertion that Super Bowl Sunday is
"the biggest day of the year for violence against
women." One cited study indicated a 40% increase in such
violence after games won by the Washington Redskins. According
to the Boston Globe, women's shelters and hotlines are
"flooded with more calls from victims [on Super Bowl
Sunday] than any day of the year." As it turns out, every
study linking football to violence against women proved
unreliable.

The Abuse Excuse
The tragic saga of OJ
Simpson, charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown
Simpson, and Ronald Goldman, has once again thrust domestic
violence into the spotlight. But many of those discussing the
issue seem more interested in exploiting a tragedy for
political gain and in bashing men than in offering solutions.

"...feminist ideology holds that physical menace toward
women is the norm. Gloria Steinem's portrait of male-female
intimacy under patriarchy is typical: The most dangerous
situation for a woman is not an unknown man in the street, or
even the enemy in wartime, but a husband or lover in the
isolation of their own home." Steinem's description of
the dangers women face in their own home is reminiscent of the
Super Bowl hoax of January 1993.
Christina Hoff Sommers
Who Stole Feminism?
Feminists would eventually go after the last and most
important vestige of manhood--no, not as CEO's nor as
important politicians, but where they could do the most
damage: men's sports.

We think it is important for young people of both sexes to
have role models, and so we don't want to exclude anyone.
