Letter to Senator Nicholas Spano requesting court-ordered
visitation on Father's Day
Anthony Nazzaro, June 12, 2000 Currently
the issue of non-custodial paternal involvement in the lives of
children is being openly discussed. Both Vice President Gore and
former Vice President Dan Quayle have publicly spoke of the
importance of restoring the fatherhood role in American society.
Because of the much higher rate of
custody going to women, Mother's Day has always received much
attention. Many non-custodial fathers, however, do not have the
pleasure of enjoying their children's company on the day set aside
to honor fathers. Most fathers wish to be more involved in their
children's lives but are restricted from doing so by the very
portion of society that decries them as not doing enough.
We are urging State Legislators to
enact legislation making both Father's Day and Mother's Day a part
of court ordered visitation. We are also urging the Family Courts to
make these special holidays a mandatory inclusion in all visitation
orders.
Respectfully,
Anthony Nazzaro
